Vertical Smoke Jets

Safe, water-based, concert-production-grade smoke jets — aimed up, across the floor, or on their sides for outdoor “dancing on a cloud” looks a lot of companies skip.

Vertical columns punch entrances and night peaks. Horizontal hits smoke out the dance floor when the party needs a lift. On their sides outdoors, jets can build that low cloud vibe couples ask about for venues like Lanikuhonua, Kualoa Ranch, and Paliku Gardens.

After dark, vertical looks can be illuminated any color — red reads like vertical flames, blue goes electric, pink/purple/yellow push high-energy looks. The plume dissipates quickly, similar in “hit then clear” spirit to a CO2 cannon blast. Usable outdoors and indoors with venue permission.

What smoke jets are (and how we aim them)

Smoke jets fire a fast, pressurized column of water-based effect. Think punctuation — not slow fog that hangs forever.

  • Vertical: Straight-up columns for grand entrances, song drops, and timed peaks. Color after sunset is where this look gets loud.
  • Horizontal: Aimed to smoke out the dance floor and hype open dancing when the floor is already alive.
  • On their sides (outdoor cloud option): Laid low for a “dancing on a cloud” style layer outdoors. A lot of companies don’t offer this. A lot of couples want it. We can.

Same gear. Different aim. We pick for the moment.

Not the same as smoke machines, CO2, or the dedicated cloud page

People lump “smoke” into one bucket. Don’t.

  • Smoke machines / water vapor: Broader floor texture through open dancing — ongoing atmosphere, not a pressurized jet hit.
  • Smoke jets: Pressurized columns you aim vertical, horizontal, or on their sides. Cue-based.
  • CO2 cannon: Short CO₂ plume peaks. Different medium. Similar “moment” job to a vertical jet hit.
  • Dancing on a cloud: Dedicated low romantic first-dance product (cool CO₂ cloud). Best indoors / low wind.

Jets as an outdoor cloud option are complementary — not a replacement. Classic indoor first-dance romance? Start at dancing on a cloud. Outdoor where that tool fights wind? Talk side-oriented jets.

Why couples book them

Weddings need punctuation. Entrances, song drops, and mid-dance peaks are where guests lean in and phones come up.

  • Grand entrance impact across a room or lawn (vertical)
  • Dance-floor hype — horizontal smoke that wakes the floor without smothering the next song
  • Outdoor cloud energy at Lanikuhonua, Kualoa Ranch, and Paliku Gardens — a look a lot of vendors won’t do
  • Color drama after sunset on vertical columns
  • Quick clear so the effect doesn’t own the song

They’re not required for a packed floor. Live mixing matters more. Jets amplify peaks that already have energy.

Vertical: entrances and night POW

Vertical is the classic look — pressurized plume straight up. Awesome for grand entrances. Crazy awesome for hype moments once the night moves.

After dark, illumination turns those columns into colored statements:

  • Red — vertical “flame” energy
  • Blue — electric, sharp
  • Pink / purple / yellow — high-energy party colorways
  • Other colors tied to your uplight or brand palette

Daytime outdoor use can still work as a white/plume look. Night is where color pops hardest. Pair with smart uplighting and dance lighting so the whole room agrees.

Horizontal: smoke out the dance floor

Horizontal isn’t “vertical tilted for fun.” It’s a different cue.

When open dancing is already moving, a horizontal hit can smoke out the floor and punch the energy up — timed with the mix, not random fog. Guests feel the room change. Phones come up.

Wrong song, wrong timing — haze. Right song, right timing — the moment people talk about on the ride home.

On their sides: outdoor “dancing on a cloud”

Unique angle: jets on their sides outdoors for a cloud-style layer at outdoor Hawaiʻi venues — including Lanikuhonua, Kualoa Ranch, and Paliku Gardens.

A lot of companies don’t do side-oriented jets for outdoor cloud looks. A lot of couples want exactly that. We can.

This does not replace the dedicated dancing on a cloud page — that’s still home for classic cool-CO₂ first-dance cloud (indoors / protected spots). Side-oriented jets are the outdoor-cloud option when venue and wind push you there.

Torn between the two? Chat. We’ll match the tool to the venue.

Indoor vs outdoor (venue permission is real)

Outdoors: Often more flexible, still subject to venue rules. Wind shapes plumes and cloud layers — we plan placement and orientation accordingly.

Indoors: Possible with venue permission. Some hotels and ballrooms are strict. We don’t argue policy on the dance floor — we design inside it or recommend another effect.

Unsure? Ask early. We’ll help turn venue language into yes / no / alternatives.

How we time jets during the night

Wrong way: Fire vertical hits during speeches when nobody knows why the room just yelled.

Right way: Cue entrances, horizontal dance-floor peaks, or outdoor cloud moments when attention is already pointed forward. Build the mix. Hit the jet. Keep reading the room.

We can stack jets with cold sparks, CO2, or denser lighting — but one clear peak beats five competing toys. Tip your photographer/videographer on the cue.

Smoke jets vs other effects (quick chooser)

  • Vertical colored columns / entrance POW → smoke jets (vertical)
  • Smoke out the dance floor → smoke jets (horizontal)
  • Outdoor cloud-style layer → smoke jets on their sides (still see dancing on a cloud for the dedicated product)
  • Classic low romantic first-dance cloud → dancing on a cloud
  • Short CO₂ peaks → CO2 cannon
  • Ongoing floor vapor → smoke machines
  • Spark columns → cold spark fountains

Pick the moment. Then pick the tool — and the aim.

When jets are a strong fit

Strong fit if: entrance POW, dance-floor hype, or outdoor cloud energy is on your list; you want vertical and/or horizontal options; venue allows atmospheric effects.

Skip or swap if: venue bans it; the night is intentionally quiet; wind will wreck the look; you want the dedicated dancing on a cloud product instead.

FAQ

Are these water-based?

Yes — safe water-based smoke jets, concert-production grade.

Vertical and horizontal?

Yes. Vertical for columns and color after dark. Horizontal to smoke out the dance floor. On their sides outdoors for cloud-style looks at Lanikuhonua, Kualoa Ranch, and Paliku Gardens.

Is the outdoor cloud the same as your dancing-on-a-cloud page?

No. Side-oriented jets are a complementary outdoor option. Classic first-dance cloud still lives on dancing on a cloud.

Can they be colored?

Yes after dark with light illumination on vertical looks — red, blue, pink, purple, yellow, and more. The smoke itself isn't colored.

Indoors OK?

With venue permission. Always confirm rules early.

Same as a smoke machine or CO2?

No. Jets are pressurized hits you aim. Smoke machines are floor texture. CO2 is a different medium — see CO2 cannon.

How do we book?
